I have an ongoing bet with Keith Kaplan that any company named ___ster will fail. I loved Napster and their founders. They really did change the world. These other “sters” are sad.
Even companies with original ideas add the “ster” suffix. Why?
My advice is to start with the primary meaning you want your name/brand to have and find domains that are available/affordable. Namespinners at Buydomains can certainly help. If you are really stuck you can hire a naming company like A Hundred Monkeys
In 2003, I was fortunate enough to witness a few ALCS playoff games between the Yankees & Red Sox. I could go into my own version of Fever Pitch: 1986, Bucky Dent, etc., but I will spare you. I liked the song “New York, NY” until the Aaron Boone game–65,000 Yankee fans screaming it my ear changed my opinion.
After one of the games, I spliced together some video of my friends and I at the game. I uploaded it to YouTube as a reminder for them last winter. The video itself is unremarkable (unless you are the star) but shows some first time visitors at Fenway Park and their experiences.
What is interesting is the amount of attention my video has received (8,239 views as of this post) and the volume spikes everytime the Yanks and Sox play each other (500+ views each game). Recently, some fine gentlemen from the New York area have been encouraging me to post more videos by commenting “YANKEES ROCK BIATCHS BOSTON SUKS” Red Sox fan? Support the team.
Granted Youtube wasn’t around back then but ESPN, MLB or one of the sports sites should have figured out a way to gain top position for ALCS and Red Sox search terms over a few guys sing “Sweet Caroline.”
Have any popular video content? Did you or your company make money from it?
